PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Junior Mackenzie Latt registered her fourth double-double and reached the 1,000-point mark for her career, but it was not enough as Davidson fell 73-51 to Duquesne on the road Saturday afternoon in women's basketball inside A.J. Palumbo Center.
A 21-2 run by the Dukes that spanned from the end of the second quarter and carried into the third quarter was the difference. Davidson was within six points, 29-23 before Duquesne (9-8, 2-2 A-10) used the run to pull away.
Latt finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her 17th career double-double. The junior joined the 1,000-point club when she drained a jumper at the top of the key in the second quarter with 5:28 go, capping off a 13-4 run by the 'Cats to get them within six (29-23).
Justine Lyon followed with 13 points, while Andrea Robinson had a season-best 10 points off the bench. The freshman went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe to set a new personal best.
Duquesne put two players in double figures, with Chassidy Omogrosso's scoring 20 points. Amanda Szamosi had a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while also reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career in the game.
Omogrosso scored 10 of the Dukes' first 18 points to start the game and Duquesne grabbed a 25-10 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Davidson (2-13, 0-3 A-10) charged back at the start of the second quarter, running off a 13-4 run to get back within six with 5:28. The final bucket of the run was hit by Latt, pushing her over 1,000 career points.
It unfortunately would be the 'Cats' last bucket of the quarter, going scoreless the final five minutes and trailing 36-23 at halftime.
The Dukes then opened up the new half with a 13-2 run, adding to their 8-0 run to finish the second quarter to go up 49-25. Davidson was never able to recover, falling behind by as many as that 24-point deficit.
For the 16th straight game, the Wildcats reached double-figures in offensive rebounds as they finished with 12. Saadia Timpton had a team-high three of her six boards on offense.
Davidson was held to 32.3 percent shooting, but went 10-for-11 at the free-throw line while holding Duquesne to 36.8 percent overall.
The 'Cats returns home for an Education Day game against Massachusetts next Thursday, Jan. 12, at 11:30 a.m.
