BRONX, N.Y. — In a game that went back-and-forth, Fordham pulled away from Davidson in the fourth quarter to remain perfect in Atlantic 10 play, as the Wildcats dropped an 85-72 decision on the road Wednesday night in women's basketball inside Rose Gym.
Tied at 47-all in the third quarter, Fordham used a 9-2 run to cap off the quarter and then held off a charging Davidson team that got within five in the last quarter by hitting 10-of-12 free throws in the final 2:30 to seal up the win.
Despite the setback, the Wildcats (2-12, 0-2 A-10) for the first time this year had four players reach double figures in points led by Justine Lyon's 22-point effort. The sophomore reached the 20-point mark for the second time in the past three games, hitting 8-of-16 shots and a career-best 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Mackenzie Latt continued her quest of joining the 1,000-point club by dropping in 19 and is now seven points away from becoming the 19th Wildcat to join the club. She added seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
Joining those two in double figures was Chloe Johnson and Kyla Roland with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Johnson dished out a game-high eight dimes and pocketed a pair of steals, while Roland was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor for her season-best in points.
Fordham (12-5, 3-0 A-10) put five players in double digits, paced by G'mrice Davis' double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds. Anna Kelly came off the bench for 18 points, while Hannah Missry and Kate Kreslina had 14 apiece. Danielle Burns added 10 points.
The Rams shot 51.9 percent from the floor and finished 23-of-29 from the free-throw line, while Davidson shot 47.6 percent overall from the field, its second-best mark this year.
The game featured six ties and seven lead changes, including four ties and four lead changes in the third quarter alone.
Down 10 in the last quarter, Lyon cut the 'Cats' deficit in half with a pair of free throws to make it 67-62 with five minutes left. Fordham though would pushed the lead back to 10 three minutes later and Davidson never got any closer.
Kyla Roland came off the bench to spark a 15-5 run in the second quarter by hitting three straight buckets and finished the quarter with eight points overall as Davidson took a 34-33 lead into halftime. It trailed 28-19 midway through the quarter before rattling off its run.
The Wildcats grabbed a brief 12-11 lead in the first quarter after Latt converted an and-one play with 3:32 on the clock. It was short-lived, with the Rams closing on a 9-0 run to go up eight after the first 10 minutes.
