BOSTON - The Davidson men's track and field team set three new school records Saturday at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center.
The Davidson 4x400 meter relay team of Sean Caveney, Jacob Hostetler, Garrett Nickelson and George Williams ran away with their heat and placed seventh overall with a time of 3:17.9, setting a new school record by nearly seven seconds.
Williams was not done putting his name in the record books, completing the 400-meter run in 48.52 seconds to break Hostetler's record, 49.64 seconds, set last season. Hostetler set a new personal best mark in the same heat, crossing the line in 48.58 seconds.
"We took a giant step forward today as a team. We have to be pleased with breaking school records and running personal bests. The guys gained some great experience in running at a very competitive meet, and it will help us to be a better team in three weeks at the A-10 Championships," said head coach Renny Waldron.
Speaking of breaking school records and gaining experience, Wildcat rookie Garrett Nickelson reset a program record in the 500-meter run, completing the race in 1:04.49, placing fourth overall in a highly competitive field. Nickelson toppled Patrick Rollo's record from 2015 by over two seconds.
Davidson senior's Walker Mogen and Will Brewster ran the Atlantic 10's top times in the 3k, so far this season. Both Mogen (8:14.68) and Brewster (8:16.97) ran well at the Terrier Classic, while assistant coach Brian Doyle also impressed, breaking eight minutes with a time of 7:58.40.
A select group of 'Cats will be in action Sunday, Jan. 29 at the UNCG Duals at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
