BOSTON – Davidson junior Sarah Sears' new school record in the mile run highlighted a spectacular trip up to Boston for the women's track and field team Friday night at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Sears broke five minutes for the first time in her career and did it decisively, crossing the line in 4:53.03 for a 7.38 second personal record. The Arlington, Va., native jumped ahead of Sarah Paddon who set the previous program best time of 4:55.82 in 2015.
Junior Sierra Ponthier also competed in the mile and crossed the line in 5:03.96 for a new personal best result.
Senior Hannah Rieden nearly reset her own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.00 - she went 2:12.41 at last season's Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship.
Wildcat freshman Susannah Cate and senior Hayden Bates, like their teammates, took advantage of the fast track and competitive field en route to more personal bests. Cate came through in 10:04.39, while Bates cruised home in 10:13.70.
Sophomore Caroline Yarbrough was the last to take the track and did not disappoint, notching her own personal best mark in the 5k with a time of 17:11.65.
Davidson next hits the track Sunday, Jan. 29 at the UNCG Duals at JDL Fast Track.
