DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's and women's swimming and diving teams start their 2016-17 seasons Friday, heading the short distance to Uptown Charlotte for a four-team event at Queens University. All four squads will dive into Cannon Natatorium Saturday, as the two-day meet concludes at Davidson.
Friday's meet will start at 5:30 p.m., where the men and women will both face two-time defending Division II Champions Queens, as well as league foe George Washington. The women will also compete against UNC Asheville, which does not field a men's team. All four teams will compete Saturday at Davidson, beginning at 11 a.m.
The preseason comes to a close as the Atlantic 10 announced the results of its Preseason Poll Thursday; the women were picked to repeat their third-place finish from last season and the men were selected to finish tied for seventh.
Leading the way is a pair of senior women standouts in two-time A-10 Most Outstanding Performer Elise Lankiewicz and Team USA Olympic Trials participant Katy Williams. Lankiewicz holds ten Davidson program records and four A-10 records, while Williams competed in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events at the U.S. Olympic Trials this past summer in Omaha, Neb. Lankiewicz and Williams are joined by 14 letterwinners on the women's fleet, and a crew of 14 veterans anchor the men's side.
This weekend marks the first of seven meets before the Wildcats head to Geneva, Ohio, for the Atlantic 10 Championships in February.
