
Davidson Falls to No. 1 Rhode Island in A-10 Semifinals

BRONX, N.Y. – Junior Brian Fortier's grand slam in the fifth was not enough as the Davidson baseball team fell to No. 1 seed Rhode Island, 13-4, Friday in the semifinals of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship at Houlihan Park.
The Rams (29-25) quickly raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first three innings thanks to two home runs that scored seven runs in the third.
After the Wildcats (27-25) got on the board in the fourth, runs in the final three innings secured the ballgame for Rhode Island.
Rhode Island had a huge day offensively, scoring its 13 runs off 14 hits, including seven of which were extra bases. Davidson recorded eight hits, including three doubles and a homer, but left eight Wildcats on base.
On the mound, Steve Moyers (6-6) pitched the first seven innings, holding Davidson to four runs off six hits with five strikeouts for the win. Mark Silvestri and Brad Applin pitched appeared in relief.
Five Wildcats made an appearance for Davidson, including Clark Beeker (9-4) who started the first 2.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts for the loss.
The Wildcats will return to the field tonight, May 27 to face the winner of No. 2 seed VCU and No. 3 seed Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ASN and also streamed on the A-10 Network.
