‘Cats Down VCU 11-5 to Advance to A-10 Championship

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to Clark Beeker's career-high 10 strikeouts, Will Robertson's perfect 4-for-4 performance helped lift the Davidson baseball team over VCU, 11-5, in the first game of the series Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The series was limited to just one game due to rain.
Davidson scored multiple runs in four innings, including three in the third and four in the eighth that secured the contest.
The win helped the Wildcats finish the regular season 25-24 overall and 11-11 in the A-10, which secured them a spot in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship. The seven-team, double-elimination championship will be hosted by Fordham and begins Wednesday, May 25 in the Bronx, N.Y.
In addition to his career-high performance, Beeker pitched the first eight innings and allowed three runs with just one earned off nine hits to improve to 9-3 overall.
Robertson led all players with a 4-for-4 outing with two RBI and three runs scored as Davidson out hit VCU, 15-13. Three other Wildcats recorded multiple hits, including Alec Acosta who finished the day 3-for-5 with one RBI and three runs scored.
On the mound, Brooks Vial (7-4) pitched the first 2.2 innings for the Rams, allowing five runs – all earned – off six hits with two strikeouts for the loss. Two other Rams appeared in relief.
Westin Whitmire closed out the game for the 'Cats, allowing two runs off four hits with one strikeout in the final inning of play.
