DAVIDSON, N.C. —  The Davidson men's tennis team shook off dropping the doubles point by winning all six singles positions on their way to a 6-1 victory at home over rival Appalachian State Saturday afternoon inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats won for the eighth time in the past 10 matches to move to 11-8 overall. They also halted their 11-match skid in the all-time series vs. the Mountaineers (12-6), claiming a win for the first time since 2005.

"Shamael was outstanding today and set the tone in singles for us," said head coach Drew Barrett. "It was a great comeback for the team after dropping the doubles point and I'm thrilled for the guys who were focused and determined against a tough team."

Appalachian State grabbed the lead early with doubles wins at No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (6-3). The pair of Zack Zapatero and Artem Khrapko were the lone 'Cats to score a victory, taking a 6-3 decision at No. 3 to even their record at 5-5.

Shamael Chaurdhy tied things up by dominating his singles match, scoring an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 to halt a personal three-match losing streak. He evened his record to 9-9 on the season.

The rest of the Wildcats followed. Khrapko won a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 battle at No. 2 for his 10th win of the year.

David Hager and Jack Riazzi kept pace with each other by winning their team-leading 12th matches each at No. 3 and 6 positions, respectively. Hager won a 6-2, 6-4 match for his second straight win, while Riazzi won his eighth match in the past 10 with a 6-3, 6-3 decision.

J.B. Gough returned to the starting lineup after being forced out due to being sick and tallied a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles to move to 10-6 on the year. Ricy Saad gave the 'Cats their final point with a nice 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles to run his record to 3-1.

Davidson as a team improved to 60-49 in singles matches, with three 'Cats having reached the double-digit win mark.

Wrapping up their regular season, the Wildcats will host College of Charleston Sunday at 1 p.m.
