DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team gears up for the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship starting Thursday, April 14, in Charrlottesville, Va., at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
The Wildcats (11-9, 4-1 A-10) earned the fourth overall seed and last opening-round bye out of 12 teams. They will be seeking the program's first-ever A-10 Tournament title after capturing the Southern Conference title nine times.
After falling in their league opener vs. Richmond, the 'Cats ran off four straight wins against Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, Dayton and George Mason. It was the second year in a row they went 4-1 in A-10 action.
With its first round bye, Davidson will get the winner of fifth-seeded Dayton or 12th-seeded La Salle in the quarterfinals on Friday at 10 a.m. The Flyers finished 14-7 and 5-1 in A-10 play on the season, while the Explorers went winless at 0-16 during the season.
If the Wildcats advance, they would take on the winner of VCU, the top seed, and either George Mason or Saint Louis, Saturday in the semifinals at 10 a.m.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Should the Wildcats face Dayton, it would be the second time this year and only the second all-time. They pulled out a down to the wire match at home, 4-3, earlier this year. The match came down to singles play and Davidson earned wins at four of the six positions to pick up the win.
Davidson and La Salle would be facing each other for the first time.
A-10 Tournament History
The Wildcats are making their second appearance in the A-10 Tournament. In last year's first-ever appearance they dropped a tough 4-3 decision to George Mason in the quarerfinals.
During Davidson's run in the Southern Conference, it had a 12-14 tournament record that dated back to 1988. The Wildcats won the tournament nine times, collecting titles back in 1954, 1955, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1973.
As for the A-10 Tournament, George Washington has claimed the title in four of the past five years, including winning a 4-2 decision over VCU last year in the championship match for the second straight season.
Scouting the Wildcat Men- Quick Hits
• For the second year in a row, and third time in the past four years, Davidson reached the double-digit mark in wins as it finished the regular season with 11.
• It is the fifth time under head coach Drew Barrett the 'Cats have hit the double-figure mark in wins.
• Coach Barrett is in his 10th season guiding the program and has 132 career wins, including 92 at Davidson.
