NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Sophomore Anna Catharine Feaster added to her career weekly awards list by earning the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for matches played from March 15-21, as announced today by the league office.
It is Feaster fourth career weekly award after earning the league's rookie performer of the week three times last year. Overall, it is the Wildcats' third weekly honor this season.
Feaster and Davidson continued their strong season, and recent hot play of late, by going 2-0 for the week in picking up a pair of 4-0 A-10 wins over Duquesne and Saint Joseph's on the road. The two wins pushed the 'Cats' win streak to nine straight, as the sophomore went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles action last week.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native scored her eighth singles win of the season with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance at No. 1 vs. the Duquesne Dukes. She teamed up with Ally Sexton to net a 7-5 doubles victory in the match at the top spot.
Then against the Hawks, Feaster again teamed with Ally Sexton and the duo scored a 6-2 win to help Davidson sweep all three doubles positions. The two doubles wins gave the pair a personal-best nine-match win streak in doubles action, which is the longest since the Wildcat duo of Virginia Berry and Teresa Wang had a nine-match streak during the 2007 season.
On the season, the sophomore is sporting an 8-5 singles record, all at No. 1, and is a team-best 10-1 (5-0 A-10) in doubles play with Sexton. The duo is a combined 27-6 the past two years together.
Davidson (12-2, 5-0 A-10) returns home for Senior Day, March 25, when it hosts Dayton at 3 p.m.
