NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Atlantic 10 Conference office today announced that sophomore Shamael Chaudhry was named this week's player of the week for matches played from March 15-21.
Chaudhry earned Davidson's first weekly award this season, while it was his third career weekly honor after garnering A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week twice last year.
The sophomore went a combined 4-1 in singles and doubles last week to help lead Davidson to a 2-1 record, including scoring its first two league wins against Duquesne and Saint Joseph's. He scored a pair of No. 1 singles victories in straight sets (6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4) against the Dukes and the Hawks.
The Walsall, United Kingdom, native also teamed with J.B. Gough and earned a 6-3 win against Elon to start the week and another 6-3 victory against SJU, pushing their doubles win streak to four in a row. Chaudhry has a team-best 6-2 doubles mark with Gough, with four of those wins coming at No. 1.
Davidson's top singles player, Chaudhry is one of three players with eight wins on the season and owns 20 for his career.
The Wildcats (7-7, 2-1 A-10) will play host to Dayton, March 24, in an Atlantic 10 match at 3 p.m.
