CORAL GABLES, Fla. — As part of a two-match road trip to the state of Florida, the Davidson men's tennis team dropped its first match to host Miami 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
It was the first time this year the Wildcats (3-5) were unable to score a team point. Miami (5-3) started off with wins of 6-1 and 6-2 at No. 2 and 3 doubles to grab the early 1-0 lead.
The pair of J.B. Gough and Shamael Chaudhry trailed just 4-3 in their match at No. 1, but it went unfinished after the Hurricanes clinched the doubles point.
In singles action, the duo of Gough and Jack Riazzi saw their personal four-match win streaks come to an end. Gough dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 3 to fall to 5-2 on the season. Riazzi won six games in his match at No. 6, but lost 6-4, 6-2.
Chaudhry battled at No. 2, pushing his Hurricane opponent, Christian Langmo who is ranked 81st in the country, to extra games in each set, but came of short in a 7-5, 7-6 defeat to fall to an even 4-4 on the season.
At the top spot, Artem Khrapko was facing his second ranked opponent this year. He dropped a 6-2, 6-2 match to Piotr Lomacki, who came in ranked 78th in the nation.
David Hager played one extra game in the second set before falling 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 and Jordan Hart dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 5.
Davidson finishes its Florida trip with a match at Florida Atlantic, March 3.
