Sargent T-2nd; ‘Cats 3rd After Day One of Davidson Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to David Sargent sitting tied for second, just two off the pace, the Wildcats are third as a team following the opening day of the 2016 Davidson College Invitational, Monday at River Run Country Club.
After opening with a 77, Sargent fired a one-under 71 in the afternoon and will enter the final round tied with Gardner-Webb's Chris Jones (75-73=148). Sargent's second-round total was just one of two rounds under par on the opening day.
As a team, the Wildcats (308-301=609) are just six behind Charlotte (302-301=603) and five back of Cleveland State (305-299=604).
The 49ers' Thomas Rowland (72-74=146) holds the top spot on the 42-player leaderboard.
Davidson's Andy Simmons (76-74=150) is two swings behind Sargent in a tie for fourth, while teammate Hoke Carlton, who is participating as an individual, is tied for ninth at 152.
Mike Blasey (154/T-17th), Alex Nianouris (157/T-26th), Jack Lang (160/T-33rd), Spencer Papciak (162/T-37th) and Kevin Carlock (164/39th) are also competing for the Wildcats.
Along with Davidson, the seven-team field features Charlotte, Cleveland State, Gardner-Webb, Marshall, Queens and Radford.
Tomorrow's third and final round will begin at 8:25 am.
The event is being played on the Par 72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club layout.
