DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman Gabrielle Centenari gave the Davidson women's tennis team its second weekly award this year when she was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week today, as announced by the league office.
Centenari joins fellow freshman Megan Scholvinck, who was named the league's rookie of the week, Feb. 9, as the two Wildcats to grab weekly awards this year.
In their lone match this past weekend, Centenari helped the 'Cats to their fifth straight win at home, a 6-1 decision over Wingate, by earning a singles and doubles win in the match. The first-year player teamed up with Jenna Brunner at No. 3 doubles to seal up the doubles point with a 6-4 win. It was the duos second win in a row together.
Playing at No. 4 singles, Centenari evened her record on the season to 3-3 by giving up just two games in a strong 6-1, 6-1 victory. All three of her wins this year have come at home.
Atlantic 10 play begins next for the Wildcats as they travel to George Mason and George Washington, Feb. 27-28.
