Wildcats Split on Day One of A-10 Match Play

WESTON, Fla. – After defeating George Washington 5-1 in the quarterfinals, Davidson suffered a 4.5-1.5 setback to second-seeded Richmond in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship, Monday at Weston Hills Country Club.
The Wildcats will conclude their spring opener tomorrow against fourth-seeded George Mason in the third-place match.
Senior David Sargent led the way for Davidson with a pair of wins and two total points. Freshman Jack Lang contributed 1.5 points with a win against the Colonials and tie in the afternoon competition.
Andy Simmons, Mike Blasey and Spencer Papciak also put points on the board for the third-seeded Wildcats in the morning session.
Hoke Carlton and Kevin Carlock are competing as individuals for Davidson.

The Wildcats will host the Davidson College Invitational February 28 – March 1 at River Run Country Club.
About the A-10 Match Play Championship
The two-day event features eight of the 11 conference members. Teams will play six matches, earning one point for victory and a half point for a tie. The team with the most points will advance to the Championship side of the bracket. In the event of a tie, the winning team will be decided by the most overall holes won collectively as a team.
