Five in a Row at Home, ‘Cats Net 6-1 Win

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson continued to defend its home court, winning its fifth match in a row at home with a 6-1 triumph over visiting Wingate Sunday afternoon on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
 
The Wildcats ran their overall record to 5-2 on the season, while sending the Bulldogs to an even 3-3 mark.
 
For the third time this year, the 'Cats started the match by winning the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 1 and 2, and a 6-4 decision by Jenna Brunner and Gabrielle Centenari at No. 3. The duo won their second in a row together.
 
The pair of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton won their team-leading third doubles match at No. 2, and Elaina Cummer and Sarah Stein earned their second win in five matches together at the top spot.
 
The quartet kept the winning going in singles action, with each of them taking home a team point for the Wildcats. Feaster and Cummer won their second straight, and fifth overall, with strong 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4 victories at No. 1 and 3 positions, respectively.
 
Stein won her first set 6-3 and then used a tie-breaker to claim the match by winning 9-7 to even her record at 3-3.
 
At No. 2, Ava Todd rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 decision for her fifth win of the season and the freshman Centenari evened her record at No. 4 singles to 3-3 by allowing just two games in a nice 6-1, 6-1 victory.
 
Davidson as a team improved to 24-15 in singles play this year.
 
Atlantic 10 play begins next for the Wildcats as they travel to George Mason and George Washington, Feb. 27-28.
