SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — Saint Louis shot a game-high 50 percent and put four players in double figures on its way to earning an 88-51 win at home over Davidson in Chaifetz Arena Monday afternoon on President's Day in Atlantic 10 women's basketball.
With her third three-pointer of the game in the third quarter with 1:49 left, senior Hannah Early set a new program record for made treys with her 223rd to surpass Laura Murray's mark of 222. Early hit 4-of-9 shots overall and 3-for-5 from behind the arc for 12 points.
Davidson dropped both games against the Billikens in the season series, falling to 11-15 on the year and 5-8 in A-10 play.
Jackie Kemph paced SLU (19-6, 9-3 A-10) with 19 points, nine of them from the charity stripe, and dished out a career-high 14 assists. Fellow starter Denisha Womack scored 11.
Aaliyah Covington matched Kemph with 19 points off the bench and Maddison Gits had 12 as both players help the Billikens' bench score 47 points for the game.
Joining Early in double figures for the Wildcats was Mackenzie Latt with team bests of 14 points and seven rebounds. Senior Dakota Dukes was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line for all eight of her points.
A drought of over nine minutes without a field goal between the first and second quarters by the Wildcats would be the determining factor in a tough defeat on the road.
Saint Louis was able to turn a 13-8 lead into a 36-17 advantage over the stretch. Early hit a deep triple at the top of the arc to halt the dry spell, as Davidson was only able to muster six free throws during the drought.
The Billikens shot 58.1 percent in the first two quarters combined to grab leads of 23-12 and 46-24 at the end of each quarter.
For the 12th straight game, Davidson dished out at least 10 assists, while SLU had game highs of 11 steals, 23 assists and 43 rebounds.
Davidson has some time off until playing again this weekend on Sunday vs. Massachusetts, Feb. 21, for its Play For Kay game.
GAME NOTES: This was the fourth meeting all-time between the two schools, with Saint Louis holding a 3-1 lead … 44 of SLU points came in the paint, while Davidson had just eight points … Latt has scored in double figures in 29 of her last 34 games … she recorded her 22nd double-figure scoring game of the season, while Early earned her 17th … Dukes moved into third place all-time in made free throws with her season-high tying eight.
