WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Davidson women's track and field opened the 2016-17 outdoor season Saturday at the JDL College Kickoff Classic.
Senior Hannah Rieden opened with a solid performance in the 800-meter run, placing second overall and taking a narrow loss in 2:15.32.
The Wildcats packed up in the mile run, taking spots two through five and led by junior Sarah Sears in 5:00.85. Sierra Ponthier (5:07.83), Sophia Mills (5:09.88) and Maddie Hunter (5:12.89) rounded out the Davidson contingency.
Head Coach Jen Struab's squad had similar success in the 3k with three runners placing in the top-10. Sophomore Caroline Yarbrough led the way with a 10:05.37 performance, good for second overall. Rookie teammate Susannah Cate was next across the line in 10:27.53, while Grace Falken (10:43.82) was sixth.
Freshman Katie Hines debuted in the sprints Saturday, placing 12 th overall in the 200-meter dash in 26.37 seconds.
The 'Cats next return to the track on Jan. 21, back at JDL.
