RICHMOND, Va. – Another standout performance from senior Elise Lankiewicz paced the Davidson swimming and diving teams on the final day of competition at the Richmond Duals. The men were defeated by George Mason 125-80, while the women were edged out by Richmond 154-144.
Lankiewicz, a two-time Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year, remains undefeated in individual events, taking first in the 200 and 500 freestyle and the 200 butterfly events. As with Friday, Lankiewicz defeated her competitors by wide margins, touching in more than five and twelve seconds ahead in both the 200 and 500 free.
Senior Chris Cardwell and junior Clay Resweber picked up first places on the men's side, sprinting to victory in the 50 (23.99) and 100 backstroke (52.45) events, respectively. The duo was backed by a handful of second places, including a pair of relays in the 400 medley and 200 free. Rookie Alex Strasser turned in a second-place in both the 100 (51.79) and 50 (23.44) fly events, and fellow freshman Crossan Cooper touched in second at 4:07.24 in the 400 IM. Resweber also turned in a second place finish in the 500 free (4:38.78), joined by classmate Riley League, who stroked out a 27.02 second-place finish in the 50 breaststroke.
For the women, Lankiewicz was supported by the 200 free relay, who came in second overall but first in the dual meet format. The quartet of seniors Kassie Shannon, Erica Clancy, freshman Olivia Stanley, and Lankiewicz turned in a time of 1:36.68. Clancy performed a 24.56 split for an overall second place finish in the 50 free. Senior Katy Williams and Shannon finished second overall in the 100 breast and 100 free, respectively, but each took first in the dual meet format. Williams also took second in the dual meet with an overall third place finish in the 200 breast (2:23.40).
The Wildcats return to the pool next weekend, traveling to Washington, D.C., to face off against Georgetown for a one-day meet.
