PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Behind Maxi Pragnell's two-goal performance, Davidson knocked off league-leading Saint Joseph's, 2-1, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Wednesday night at Sweeney Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-9-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play, while the Red Hawks fall to 6-6-1 and 3-1-0.

Following Pragnell's successful penalty kick, the Wildcats' first attempt of the season, the senior tri-captain extended the lead 32 seconds later with a header into the lower left corner off a cross from Hunter Howard.

In addition to his second multi-goal performance of the season, it was the 12th and 13th goals of Pragnell's standout career.

Saint Joseph's Isaac Agyapong cut into the deficit at the 38:28 mark when he put away Eddie McCusker's header that caromed off the post.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew Kenneson was impressive for the Wildcats, matching his career-high of eight saves.

Coach Spear's Postgame Comments
"An important win on the road against the first-place team - that underlines our guys continued commitment to the cause.

Maxi really delivered tonight. We actually thought the ball had gone in before the handball was called, but Maxi finished the job with a composed PK. The second goal came immediately after where Maxi made a great, well-timed run then pinpoint header to complete Hunter's cross. It was the kind of goal Maxi has worked tirelessly on in training. That level of quality is essential.

We talked about an assertive, confident start and staying focused for the full 90 minutes .

We had to weather some hungry, direct play from Saint Joseph's - and one breakaway that Andrew saved - but we held on. Our back four in Jordan Hill, Matt Reinikka, Nate Marder and Malcolm McCabe rose to the challenge, with important work in front of them by Hunter, Zach Marks and others.

The win equals three points in Conference play and can generate momentum. We know we need to keep the right mindset, work ethic and development.

And like last time we won here, the trip culminated with alumni Ryan Northington and Howdie Coonley providing Philly Cheese Steaks for the team."
