PHILADEPHIA, Pa. — The trio of Hannah Early (19), Dakota Dukes (15) and Mackenzie Latt (14) each scored in double figures to help lead Davidson to its first Atlantic 10 win with a come-from-behind 66-58 victory Wednesday evening inside Tom Gola Arena in women's basketball action.
Davidson evened its league mark at 1-1 and improved to 7-8 overall, while winning its first game in the all-time series. La Salle fell to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in A-10 play.
The Wildcats, who were down 54-49 in the fourth quarter, used a 17-4 run in the final 4:30 of the quarter to snap a four-game overall losing streak and a three-game road skid. Early, Dukes and Latt scored 11 of the 17 points in the final run, including a big three-point play by Dukes with 2:09 to give the Wildcats the lead for good at 58-56.
The trio also swished home two free throws each in the final minute along with Alexandra Long's two free throws for an 8-for-8 showing to seal up the win. Davidson as a team went 18-for-20 to tie a season high.
Latt hauled in a game-high nine rebounds to give the 'Cats a 38-31 edge on the glass. Kayla Seymour tied a season-best with five assists and Davidson tied another season best with 19 assists on 22 made field goals.
Amy Griffin came off the bench to pace the Explorers with 15 points, while Jasmine Alston finished with 13 points to go with 11 assists.
La Salle pulled ahead in the third quarter with a 6-0 run to end the quarter and break up a 42-all tie. The quarter featured three ties and four lead changes. It then held a 52-46 lead with 6:37 left in the fourth quarter on a layup by Bullock before a triple by Early got the 'Cats within three.
Davidson's defense did a good job of not allowing the Explorers to score inside in the last two quarters, holding them to just eight points after they netted 20 in the first and second quarters combined.
Behind six points apiece from Latt and Dukes the Wildcats grabbed a 17-15 lead after the first quarter. They had a 17-8 lead on a Latt jumper midway through the quarter, but La Salle scored the last seven points to get within two.
Another Latt jumper in the early going of the second quarter gave Davidson a 24-19 lead, but La Salle continued to hang around and later tied it up at 28-all on a three-pointer by Andreana Miller with four minutes on the clock. Four straight points by Justine Lyon got the 'Cats back out in front and they would lead 33-32 at the break.
Davidson next returns home for a two-game stand, starting this weekend against Saint Louis on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m.
