BELMONT, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team won six bouts en route to a, 23-12, victory over Belmont Abbey on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders opened the dual on fire, earning wins in the first three bouts, before Davidson responded by taking the next six weight classes to secure its second consecutive win.
Aidan Conroy put the Wildcats on the board at 149 pounds. The freshman earned a convincing, 6-2, decision over Nicauzi Mitchell.
Tony Palumbo kept the momentum going at 157 pounds with a hard fought 4-3 win over Scott Bosak.
At 165 pounds, Adam Flatt evened the team score with a 9-8 decision over Joseph Coss. Flatt registered a takedown and a two point near fall late in the second period to secure his second straight victory.
Nathaniel Powers earned a, 17-5, major decision over Tyler Maclain at 174 pounds. The senior recorded two takedowns and a four point near fall in the third period before tallying the riding time point.
Konner Pritchard padded Davidson's lead with a major decision at 184 pounds. Pritchard downed Gerry Vassil, 12-5, thanks to five takedowns and the riding time point.
At 197, Michael Moore pinned Jonathan Smith at the 4:17 mark. Moore now has two pins on the year.
Davidson returns to the mat Saturday, Jan. 24 with a doubleheader against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Grand Canyon University.
