
Yarbrough Leads Davidson to First-Place Finish at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Paced by freshman Caroline Yarbrough who finished the 6K in 21:53.0, the Davidson women's cross country team earned a first-place finish at the 2015 Charlotte Invitational Friday evening.
The Wildcats claimed victory with 44 points, while host Charlotte placed second with 48 points.
"I'm really excited with how we ran today," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub. "Caroline Yarbrough and Allison Cheeseman continue to run hard and they both turned in great performances to lead the team. It was really great to see Caroline Turner have such a breakthrough race."
Yarbrough turned in Davidson's top performance for the third consecutive meet, winning the race by a margin of 22 seconds. The next Wildcat to finish was Allison Cheeseman, who crossed in 22:36.1 to take seventh.
Sierra Ponthier covered the course in 22:54.6 to finish 10th, while Sarah Sears crossed the line in 22:59.4 to rank 12th. Caroline Turner and Hayden Bates claimed top-15 finishes. Turner clocked a 23:00.6 to place 14th. Bates posted a time of 23:02.0 to finish 15th.
On the men's side, Aaron Forburger placed 11th with a time of 26:17.2, while William Jones covered the 8K course in 26:55.4.
Davidson returns to action, Oct. 9, at the Royals Cross Country Challenge.
