DAVIDSON, N.C. – After playing its first five contests in North Carolina, Davidson will travel to the West Coast for matches with California and No. 4 Stanford this weekend.

The Wildcats will play the Bears on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) before taking on the nationally-ranked Cardinal Sunday at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Coming off a 1-1 (2OT) draw with High Point Tuesday evening, Davidson enters the weekend 2-1-2 overall.

Senior Valeriy Sviderskiy continues to lead the 'Cats in scoring with two goals and five total points, while Alec Rotunda (1G, 1A) and Maxi Pragnell (3A) have three total points each.

Davidson is 0-1-0 against Cal on the pitch and 0-2-0 in its previous meetings with Stanford.

After dropping its opener and falling out of the Top-25, the Bears enter Friday's game 3-1-1. Stanford has won five straight and comes in 5-1-0.

Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"Cal and Stanford are excellent soccer programs and their styles of play are actually quite different from each other. The reality of college soccer is that each game is up for grabs, so we need to focus on ourselves and play to win."

"This will be the third team I have taken to California. The idea was generated when Coach Charlie Slagle took us out there in 1992, my senior season. That trip was awesome, we were able to defeat UCLA and Cal State Fullerton, and it catapulted that team on to national rankings and the Final Four."

"When we take these out of region trips, we aim to play the best teams in the area. The most recent trip out there we played at UC-Santa Barbara and UCLA, widely regarded as the best in Southern California. Cal and Stanford are historically the top two teams in the Bay area. Another example will be next fall when we travel to Seattle to face the University of Washington."

"I don't have an ego in this; it's all about the guys and the program. I want the players to have exciting, compelling opportunities. We get those chances vs. ACC teams nearby, but it's also great to go out of the region. Plus it helps attract ambitious recruits, motivates the current players, ignites alumni, and puts Davidson on big stages."

Up Next
Davidson will begin a four-game homestand Friday, Sept. 25, when USC Upstate visits Alumni Stadium.
