DAVIDSON, N.C. – Under the direction of head coach Tim Straub, Davidson will open its 2015-16 men's golf campaign this weekend (Sept. 12-13) at the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke.
The two-day/54-hole event will be played on the Par 72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club layout.
This year's 12-team field will feature Davidson, Duke, East Carolina, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Maryland, Penn State, Liberty, Loyola MD, Wake Forest, UNCG and UNCW.
Coming off a third-place finish at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championships, the Wildcats return three starters, including all-conference performer David Sargent.
A senior from nearby Cornelius, Sargent appeared in all 10 tournaments a year ago, while posting a career-best 74.75 stroke average, which was good for second on the team.
Fellow senior Alex Nianouris (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) will also be in this weekend's starting lineup. Last season he appeared in personal-best eight tournaments.
Also returning is Spencer Papciak (Dunwoody, Ga./Rivers Academy), who played in all 10 events as a freshman, recorded a 76.82 stroke average and five rounds of par or better in 2014-15.
Davidson also welcomes the additions of freshmen Mike Blasey, Kevin Carlock, Hoke Carlton and Jack Long. Both Carlton and Long will make their collegiate debut Saturday morning.
Live scoring will be available each day on golfstat.com.
