DAVIDSON, N.C. – Todd Eckstein and fellow all-conference performer David Sargent of the Davidson golf team have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, as recently announced.
"I am very proud of Todd and David being named All-America Scholars," said head coach Tim Straub. "They both have shown a tremendous commitment to academics and our golf program. They are a great examples of true student athletes."
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A rising senior from nearby Cornelius, Sargent carries a 3.358 GPA in mathematics. In addition to finishing second on the squad with a 74.75 stroke average this past season, Sargent placed a career-best fifth at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship.
Eckstein, who graduated in May with a 3.248 GPA in political science, enjoyed his best season posting a team-leading 73.35 stroke average. A two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, Eckstein recorded three Top-10 finishes, including back-to-back seventh place showings at the Davidson Invitational and Furman Intercollegiate last spring.
Since 1997, 12 Wildcats have received this honor, including Eckstein, Tim Dillon, Alex Knoll, Steve Mayo and John Skeadas, all of which earned the distinction twice.
