DAVIDSON, N.C. — The trio of junior Elaina Cummer, and freshmen Anna Catharine Feaster and Ava Todd were each honored Monday afternoon by the Atlantic 10 as they earned spots on the league's two all-conference teams for women's tennis.
Feaster was named to the league's first team, while Todd and Cummer were each honored with a spot on the A-10 All-Second Team. All three combined to win either the league's performer or rookie of the week award nine times. They also helped the Wildcats to a solid first year in the A-10 under the guidance of new head coach Sara Anundsen, going 12-10 overall and reaching the quarterfinals of the league tournament.
The freshman Feaster was named A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week three times during her outstanding first year. The Knoxville, Tenn., native was the Wildcats' main No. 2 singles player, finishing the season 16-6 overall (4-1 vs. A-10), with a 13-4 record at No. 2. She was second on the team in victories behind Todd's 19.
Helping the freshman on her way to the 16 wins was a pair of winning streaks. After falling in her first collegiate match at Virginia Tech, Feaster ran off a five-match win streak. Then during mid-season, she had a personal-best seven-match win streak, including picking up wins against league foes George Washington, Saint Joseph's and Massachusetts. Feaster closed the year out strong, winning three of her last four matches, with two of the wins coming in the A-10 tournament at the No. 1 position over St. Bonaventure and Fordham.
Feaster was just as dominate in doubles, teaming up with fellow classmate Ally Sexton at No. 2. The duo went a team-best 17-5 on the year, getting 16 of those victories at No. 2. They rattled off a seven-match win streak to open the season and then closed it out just as strong, winning another seven straight.
Fellow classmate Todd had a stellar debut for the Wildcats as well. Her 19-3 singles record was tops on the team as the freshman played three different positions. Assisting Todd to her outstanding season was a 16-match win streak that started in her second career match and ran all the way to April 1 before it was snapped against Elon at home, April 7. The winning streak was the longest since Kelsey Linville ran off a 13-match streak as a sophomore in 2005.
Todd was rewarded for her strong play, taking home the A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week three times, while also earning performer of the week once. A native of Baltimore, Md., the first-year also excelled in doubles, going a combined 11-10 with partners Sarah Stein and Blake Nickles at No. 3.
The junior Cummer was the Wildcats' top singles player and a steady force at No. 1. She reached the 10-win mark for the second straight year, going 10-11 overall. Cummer, from Plano, Texas, matched her career high with a four-match win streak during the season. She was named the A-10 Performer of the Week, Feb. 11.
A 2013 Southern Conference All-Freshman Team pick, Cummer teamed with Jenna Brunner at No. 1 doubles to go 9-10 on the year. For her career, she has collected 32 doubles wins to go along with 27 singles victories.
Earning the A-10 Most Outstanding Performer award was VCU's Cindy Chala after she helped the Rams clinch their third consecutive league championship title. Massachusetts, which finished runner-up at the tournament this year, earned the league's most outstanding rookie performer, Ana Yrazusta, and the coach of the year, Judy Dixon.
