UMass Too Much for Davidson, ‘Cats Fall 19-4

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Massachusetts' Hannah Murphy had a game-high five goals and Davidson was unable to recover from a quick start by the Minutewomen, dropping a 19-4 contest Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse action at Richardson Stadium.
Murphy had two of UMass' first five goals in the opening 10 minutes and the Minutewomen would go on to lead by 10 at halftime. They improved to 12-1 on the season and remained perfect in league play at 4-0.
Davidson, coming off its first-ever A-10 win Friday vs. George Mason, fell to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in A-10 play.
Senior Emily Rademacher scored two of the Wildcats' four goals to push her season total to 19, while Nicole Pettiglio and Christine Molinari scored the other two goals. Catherine Schmidt earned her fourth assist of the season.
Murphy finished with six points total for UMass, adding an assist to her five goals. Erika Eipp also had six points on three goals and a team-high three assists. Katie Ott added three points on a goal and two assists.
Overall, 13 different Minutewomen found the back of the net, while they earned nine assists on their 19 goals.
After UMass' 5-0 run to open the game, Rademacher got the 'Cats on the board with 19:07 left in the first half. A few minutes later, Pettiglio scored her 15th goal of the season to make it 6-2.
UMass though would pad its lead by going on 7-0 run over a remainder of the half before Rademacher scored with six ticks left for a 13-3 halftime score.
Outscoring the Wildcats 6-1 in the second half, UMass sealed up the win by finishing the second half on a 5-0 run.
UMass outshot Davidson 34-15, while controlling the draw at 16-10. It also hauled in 18 groundballs to the 'Cats' 10.
Emma Sissman had a team-high four draw controls, while three different Wildcats pulled in two groundballs each. Maddy Sivilli registered two groundballs and two draw controls of her own. Pettiglio caused two of Davidson's five caused turnovers.
Between the pipes, Katy Boyle finished with seven saves, two groundballs and a caused turnover. Freshman Rose Woolson saw her first career game action, stopping a shot in just over five minutes of action.
On the other end, UMass' Rachel Vallarelli and Leigh Henjes combined for six saves in goal.
Davidson hits the road next weekend, April 17 & 19, for games against La Salle and Saint Joseph's.
