DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson outscored No. 5 Duke in the second half, but it was unable to offset the Blue Devils big first half as the Wildcats dropped a 13-6 decision at home Tuesday night in women's lacrosse at Richardson Stadium.
The 'Cats saw their record fall to 3-6, while Duke improved to 11-1 on the season.
A 10-2 first half advantage proved to be to big for the Wildcats to overcome despite them scoring four of the seven second-half goals that were scored by both teams combined.
Emily Rademacher had a solid all-around game, recording four points on three goals and an assist. She also added three draw controls and a groundball, while converting Davidson's lone free-position goal.
Nicole Pettiglio scored a goal to go with two groundballs and a caused turnover. Emma Sissman netted a goal as did Annie Brockett.
Duke's Kerrin Maurer had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists, while four other Blue Devils scored twice each. Brigid Smith had three points on two goals and an assist.
With just over 30 seconds gone to start the game, Duke jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Radamacher cut the lead in half with her 12th goal of the year at the 25:56 mark, but Duke countered with a 7-0 spurt to go up 9-1.
Sissman halted the run with her 14th goal and 1:23 left in the half before Maurer make it 10-2 in favor of Duke with a goal right before the final horn.
The second half was a much different story as Davidson scored four goals, including the first of the new half from Rademacher with 26:37 on the clock.
Rademacher then helped Davidson close out the game on a 3-0 run with a goal and an assist. Brockett and Pettiglio also scored for the final score of 13-6. It was Brockett's 17th score of the season, while Pettiglio netted her 12th.
Davidson was very efficient with its 10 shots, getting the six goals, while Duke took 33 total shots. The Blue Devils also had advantages in groundballs, 20-16, and draw controls at 15-5.
Katy Boyle played well between the pipes, recording a career-high 12 saves with seven of them coming in the second half, while picking up a team-high five groundballs. Three goalies combined for three saves for Duke.
Davidson returns to Atlantic 10 play when it travels to Richmond this Saturday, April 4, for a 5 p.m. game.
