Wrestling Continues Homestand With Sacred Heart Sunday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team continues its five-match homestand Sunday, Feb. 8 when it plays host to nonconference foe Sacred Heart. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Headlock on Hunger
The Davidson wrestling team will be supporting Headlock on Hunger, an initiative that aims to help provide food for children who are dealing with hunger at home. The team will be collecting canned food at all home matches. At the end of the season, the food collected will be brought to the Southern Conference Championship.Â

About Davidson
Davidson will enter the match 4-12 overall. Senior Ian Soclz leads the team with 12 wins at 197 pounds. Classmate Kevin Birmingham is ranked first with eight pins, while junior Nathaniel Powers is second with four falls. At 184 pounds, Scott Patrick is undefeated in conference action with a 3-0 mark.

Scott Patrick and Nathaniel Powers each scored a pin as Davidson dropped two duals at Belk Arena Feb. 1. Davidson fell to Gardner-Webb, 38-6, and American, 33-6. Patrick pinned Gardner-Webb's Hunter Gamble, while Powers took down Nicholas Carey from American. With the wins, Patrick improves to 5-3 overall, while Powers owns an 8-11 overall record.

Davidson and Sacred Heart, which first met during the 2010-11 campaign, will meet for the fourth time in program history, with Davidson leading the all-time series, 2-1.

The Wildcats first defeated the Pioneers, 26-15 at the Boston University Duals in 2011 before defeating the Pioneers, 42-9, at Sacred Heart during the 2012-13 season. Last season, the two teams met again in Boston, but this time the Pioneers narrowly edged Davidson, 22-19. This marks the first time Sacred Heart will visit Belk Arena.
