DAVIDSON, N.C. — Dakota Dukes recorded a double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Mackenzie Latt added 20 points, but it was not enough, as Davidson suffered a 65-58 setback to East Tennessee State, Friday on Education Day at Belk Arena.
Tianna Tarter finished with a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucs, who matched their season-high of 10 three-pointers.
Along with scoring 41 of the Wildcats' 58 points, Dukes (8-13) and Latt (9-16) combined to go 17-of-29 from the floor.
Davidson (6-5) shot 39 percent to the Bucs' 35 percent, but the difference in the game was the Wildcats were just 7-of-14 from the charity stripe, while ETSU went 13-of-16.
Like the Wildcats, ETSU (6-6) had a pair of 20-point scorers as Shamauria Bridges also scored 20, including four treys. Malloree Schurr also grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench.
Trailing 42-35 early in the final period, Davidson used an 11-2 spurt, capped off by a Latt three-pont play, to go back in front, 46-44, with 5:56 left. The Bucs responded with another streak to push the margin to six, 58-52, and put the game out of reach.
Both teams finished with 40 rebounds.
After Melanie Ransom put the 'Cats up 18-14 with six minutes left in the second quarter, ETSU closed the period on an 11-4 run to take a 25-22 at the half.
Davidson will conclude its season-long five-game homestand with a 2 p.m, contest against cross-county rival Charlotte Sunday at Belk Arena.
GAME NOTES: This was the first meeting between both teams since the 2007-08 season … Davidson still leads the all-time series, 15-12, but had its three-game overall win streak and four-game home win streak in the series halted … the pair of 20-point scorers for Davidson was the first since Hannah Early and Laura Murray reached the mark in the same game vs. Samford, Feb. 3, 2014 … the game featured eight lead changes and four ties … the 20-point outing for Latt was her second of the season, while Dukes picked up her third … Dukes' double-double was her third of the year and 13th for her career ... Davidson's 23 fourth-quarter points were a season high.
