DELAND, Fla. –
Senior William Morris became Davidson's all-time reception leader in the Wildcats' 20-17 victory over Stetson in a game that lasted nearly seven hours due to a lightning delay at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium Saturday.

The win gives the 'Cats their first Pioneer Football League win since Nov. 10, 2012, when Davidson took a 28-27 victory over Valparaiso.

Morris concluded his stellar Davidson career atop of the record book with 237 total receptions and 3,200 total yards, while finishing tied for first with 20 total touchdowns.

After a five-hour lightning delay during halftime, Stetson came out scoring 10-straight points to tie the score, 10-10, at the start of the fourth quarter.

With 10:02 to go, Davidson found the end zone off an eight-yard touchdown pass from Taylor Mitchell to Jaris Scott that capped off an eight-play, 74-yard drive to give the 'Cats a 17-10 lead.

Stetson tied the score at 17 after a 77-yard completion to the Davidson 14-yard line that eventually led to a one-yard run from Cole Mazza with 4:28 to play.

Following a Davidson punt two minutes later, senior William Curran came up with a crucial interception on Stetson's 30-yard line, which led to a career-long/game-winning 47-yard field goal from Trevor Smith at the 1:24 mark.

The Wildcats sealed the deal off a Ryan Leak interception at the Davidson 27 on a Stetson second-and-15 from the Hatters' 38.

Davidson started the day off hot, forcing a fumble on Stetson's first drive of the game. Senior Chris Woods popped the ball out of the hands of Jason Willix, before Ryan Felice recovered it on the Wildcat 33.

Following the turnover, Davidson capitalized off a Mitchell pass to Morris, for his fourth catch of the drive, a nine-yard touchdown at the 8:03 mark.

The 10-play, 70-yard drive allowed Morris to become Davidson's all-time leader in career receptions and tie the career touchdown mark for the program as the 'Cats went up 10-0.

In its first drive of the second quarter, Davidson increased its lead with a 36-yard field goal from Smith with 8:39 left in the half. The two teams went into halftime with the Wildcats up, 10-0.

Morris finished the day with 106 yards off 10 catches and a touchdown for his 14th career 100-yard game. Mitchell threw for 174 yards off 18-of-37 passes with two touchdowns and an interception. Senior David Rogers picked up a game-high 54 yards off 15 carries.

Despite being outgained, 354-288, in total yards, Davidson recorded a season-high 21 first downs compared to Stetson's 16 and held the Hatters to just 3-of-11 third down conversions.

Ben Hart and Jaylen Mize led the Davidson defense with seven tackles, while Woods added six with a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
