DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson wrestling team will continue its busy month Thursday night with a trip to Greensboro College. The Wildcats and Pride will faceoff at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Center Gym.
Projected Lineups
Season Rewind
In the 2015-16 season opener, Davidson posted a 1-2 record at the Maryland Duals. The Wildcats sandwiched losses to Maryland and Buffalo with a win against West Liberty. The Wildcats won seven of the 10 bouts, including the final four weights to post a 25-9 win over the Hilltoppers.
Most recently, Davidson fell to Southern Conference rival Appalachian State, 49-0. Dustin Runzo put up a fight at 133, but couldn't overcome Jacob Grigg and dropped the bout by a score of 5-2. Konner Pritchard kept it tight with Taylor Jackson, but ended up yielding a 5-1 decision.
Freshmen Additions
Bobby Patnesky, the head coach for Davidson wrestling, welcomes the addition of eight freshmen to the Davidson roster for the 2015-16 academic year: Zachary Jones, Camden Bertucci, Zamir Ode, Billy McClelland, Aidan Conroy, Tony Palumbo, Adam Flatt and JC Burton. The eight newcomers hail from seven different states and will add immediate depth to six weight classes.
Leadership
Senior Nathaniel Powers (174 pounds) and sophomore Dustin Runzo (133/141) were elected by their teammates to serve as captains for the Wildcats. Last season, Powers owned a 12-16 mark, while Runzo went 5-10 in his freshman campaign.
Familiar Faces
The Pride wrestling team, in its first season as a varsity sport, is coached by former Davidson assistant coach, Erik Wince. Wince first served as an assistant coach for the Wildcats from 2003-07 before returning for a second stint from 2012-15.
Up Next
Davidson returns to action Nov. 22 with a trip to Raleigh, N.C., as the Wildcats will compete at the 2015 Wolfpack Open at N.C. State.
