DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will conclude the home portion of its 2015 schedule Saturday evening when George Mason visits Alumni Stadium for a key Atlantic 10 battle at 7 p.m.
"The match is the ideal opportunity to step forward and to demonstrate how much we have experienced and learned," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "We aim for peak performances, which is centered on development, preparation and rising to the occasion. Our goal is to shoot for excellence, and then trust that the outcome will parallel and reflect that conviction in a positive result."
Prior to kickoff, seniors Matt Pacifici, Shane Macnamara, Valeriy Sviderskiy, Alec Rotunda and George Kaloudis will be recognized for their contributions on and off the field.
"Senior Day is a tradition I admire greatly as Davidson Soccer is part of my DNA. These guys make me proud as an alumnus, and I look forward to welcoming them in to our proud and passionate tribe. As their coach, I can't say enough about their mindset, character and impact. They have truly inspired me, and I have grown a lot with and through them."
Coming off a setback at No. 2 Wake Forest Tuesday night, the Wildcats enter 5-8-3 overall and 2-4-0 (6 points) in league play.
Davidson is currently tied for ninth in the A-10 standings with Mason, but just four points out of fifth place. The top eight teams will advance to the 2015 conference tournament.
A year ago, the Wildcats and Patriots tied for fourth in the regular-season standings and played to a 0-0 (2OT) draw in the opening round of the tournament before George Mason advanced on penalty kicks.
Sviderskiy and Rotunda continue to lead the Wildcats in scoring with nine total points, while fellow forward Maxi Pragnell has a team-high five assists.
The Patriots are 5-7-3 overall and 1-2-3 in A-10 games after an impressive 5-1 win at second-place Fordham last weekend.
Henning Dirks has scored four of his club's 20 goals this season and paces the Mason offensive with 11 points.
