Duquesne Shoots Past Davidson, 83-47

PITTSBURUGH, Pa. — Duquesne shot 57.7 percent in the first half on its way to 50.9 percent for the game and had four players score in double figures as Davidson dropped an 83-47 decision on the road Saturday afternoon in Atlantic 10 women's basketball in the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Duquesne (12-8, 4-3 A-10) would hit six of its first eight shots, and 9-of-15 overall to start the game, including 11-for-13 from the line, and raced out to a 31-15 lead on its way to its seventh straight win at home.
Davidson had to play catch up the rest of the way, despite shooting 53.6 percent in the first half.
Deva'Nyar Workman led the way for the Dukes with 17 points, while April Robinson added 14 points, all coming in the first half, and seven assists. She hit half of Duquesne's eight three-pointers on the day.
Belma Nurkic scored 12 points and Olivia Bresnahan chipped in 10.
For the Wildcats (5-15, 1-6 A-10), Dakota Dukes dropped in 17 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting, with 15 of those coming in the first half. It was the junior's 11th game scoring in double digits this year and 42nd of her career.
Hannah Early followed with her 19th double-figure game of the season, scoring 10 points. Saadia Timpton finished with eight points, six rebounds and a pair of dimes.
After shooting over 50 percent in the first half, Davidson was held to 20.7 percent in the new half as it fell behind by as many as 36 points.
For the 18th time this year, the Wildcats pulled in over 10 offensive boards, getting a game-high 12. They also dished out 18 assists on their 21 made field goals, with seven different players dishing out at least two each.
Davidson returns home to finish out the month of January, starting with a 7 p.m. contest against Fordham next Wednesday. It then plays Saint Joseph's next Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.
GAME NOTES: Early has scored in double figures 47 times overall for her career … she is now 58 points away from 1,000 for her career … Early's 53 three-pointers on the season are 13 away from tying Ashley Lax's single-season record of 66 set in 2008-09.
