'Cats Set to Entertain Belmont Abbey Friday Night

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Riding a three-game unbeaten streak to begin the season, Davidson will continue it's five-game homestand with a 7 p.m. contest against cross-county foe Belmont Abbey Friday at Alumni Stadium.
"Our guys love to compete on Friday nights, and that's an awesome inspiration for each team's effort and performance level," commented head coach Matt Spear.
Coming off consecutive shutouts, including a 2-0 blanking of Jacksonville a week ago, the Wildcats enter 2-0-1.
"Our players are invigorated by our early success – including two defensive shutouts – but we surely embrace that it's one game at a time."
Davidson leads the all-time series, 19-9-2, but the two schools haven't met on the pitch since the 1990 season when the Wildcats recorded a 2-1 win.
"Belmont Abbey will be geared up for this wonderful opportunity. It's soccer, so anything can happen – and that proving ground is what we cherish."
Senior Alan Reiter leads the Davidson attack with two goals and five total points, while the duo of Valeriy Sviderskiy and Maxi Pragnell have each scored a goal and set up another.
In addition to averaging 15 shots per game, the Wildcats are limiting the opposition to just 11 shots and one goal per outing.
"The key in a winning culture is development and for each person to strive at full capacity for excellence."
Belmont Abbey, a member of Conference Carolinas, comes in with an 0-1-1 mark following a season-opening draw against Lenoir-Rhyne and 2-1 setback at Brevard.
"A process focused on intentional learning, passionate urgency and constructive progress gives us the best chance of positive results," Spear said.
The Wildcats will wrap up their homestand Tuesday when Wake Forest comes to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
