Kasarov Joins Men’s Tennis Staff as New Assistant Coach

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Head coach Drew Barrett of the Davidson men's tennis program announced today the addition of Alexander Kasarov as the new assistant coach.
Kasarov comes to Davidson with a vast amount of professional and collegiate experience over the past several years.
"I'm really excited to have Alex with us here at Davidson," said Barrett, who is entering his ninth year with the program. "With his experience as a collegiate player at Wisconsin as well as a tennis professional, he'll bring a great deal of experience, and have a big impact on our players and program."
Kasarov, a four-year letterwinner at Wisconsin from 2001-05, recently was a volunteer coach for the Northwestern women's tennis team. This past year he helped the Wildcats take home the Big Ten Championship, defeating Michigan 4-3 in the final, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament as a 15th seed. It was a very successful regular season as Northwestern finished second in the Big Ten and had three players earn first-team all-league recognition. Northwestern concluded the season ranked 15th in the final ITA rankings. It earned victories over No. 2 Florida and No. 7 Texas A&M at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship during the Fall season.
Prior to his time at Northwestern, Kasarov was a private tennis coach where he worked with top nationally-ranked junior players. He was a tennis professional from 2006-11 at Midtown Athletic Club, College Park Athletic Club and Club Net, CARE Tennis Academy, working with top-ranked players of all ages in Illinois, Midwest Section and nationally. Kasarov also worked individually with the club's top-ranked players, while providing on-court coaching during junior tournaments.
During his collegiate career, Kasarov was a key member on the Wisconsin Badgers' men's tennis team, competing at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles for three straight years. He was a team captain in 2004 and earned All-Big Ten honors. In addition, Kasarov earned team MVP honors that year and was the recipient of the Wisconsin Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Nationally, Kasarov was ranked as high as eighth in doubles during his career.
Davidson begins a new era as it moves to the Atlantic 10 this coming Fall. The Wildcats will return six letterwinners with the addition of an incoming class of four freshmen, who were recently ranked 10th in the nation in the top-25 mid-major rankings by tennisrecruiting.net.
