Lantz Leads in Final SoCon Appearance

Final Results
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Andrew Lantz narrowly missed defending his 800-meter run title, placing second to lead Davidson at the 2014 Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship Sunday, hosted by Wofford College at Spartanburg High School.
As team, Davidson placed seventh with 31.50 points. Samford won the team title with 207 points.
Lantz earned his fifth outdoor All-Southern Conference honor with his runner-up finish in the 800m, placing second in 1 minute, 50.84 seconds, over a half-second behind the champion from Samford, Brandon Hazouri (1:50.31). Lantz's time ranks as the seventh fastest in the 800m in Davidson history, and he now owns the top nine performances.
Patrick Rollo also scored for the 'Cats in the event, placing fourth in personal-best 1:53.32. Walker Mogen picked up a point in the other middle distance event, 1500-meter run, placing eighth in 3:59.72.
Charles Rappe earned a pair of top-five finishes in the hurdles, completing 110-meter in 15.56 seconds, and the 400-meter in 55.52 seconds.
Rollo and Lantz also teamed up with Nate Faubion and Wesley Laytham in the 4x400-meter relay, earning a sixth-place finish in 3:19.80.
Additionally, Xzavier Killings placed seventh in the triple jump, with a top leap of 44 feet, 4 inches (13.51m)
Whitner Chase led Davidson in the 5,000-meter run, but finished just outside the scoring positions in ninth in 15:12.25. He ran the 10,000m Saturday, placing 10th in in 31:58.79.
Also on Saturday, Grayam Sailor-Tynes placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase nearing a personal best time by finishing in 9:21.69 seconds, which ranked as a Davidson all-time top-10 performance in the event.
Killings earned the only other point on the day in the long jump, placing eighth with a top leap of 22 feet, ¼ inch (6.71m).
Wildcats finished just outside the scoring in other events. Michael Lorentsen took ninth in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 5 ¼ inches, while Jonathan Campbell was ninth in the javelin with a top throw of 155 feet, 7 inches (47.42m).
It was the final Southern Conference Championships for head coach Gary Andrew and Davidson. Andrew is retiring after the season, but he will look to guide Andrew Lantz to the NCAA Regionals for a second consecutive year in one of the middle-distance events. Davidson will join the Atlantic 10 conference next season.
