ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team fell in its matchup vs. their state-border rival Winthrop, dropping a 7-0 decision Saturday morning at the Eagle Tennis Center.
 
The Wildcats fell to 5-9 overall, while the Eagles reached .500 for the first time this year with a 3-3 mark.
 
The match started off with Winthrop taking all three doubles spots by the score of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-0.
 
Winthrop finished off with win with five straight-set wins in singles. Brites Moniz-Soares nearly scored a team point for Davidson by forcing a third set at No. 1. Since the match had been decided, she and her opponent Andressa Garcia went to a super tie-breaker, with Garcia pulling out a 10-5 decision. Moniz-Soares also fell in a first-set tie-breaker, 7-4, but came back for 6-1 win in the second set.
 
The Wildcats conclude their six-match road trip by opening Southern Conference play at Wofford Sunday with a 1 p.m. match.
