Match Results vs. No. 44 Flagler
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Davidson got back on the winning track with a big 4-3 win over No. 44 Flagler Tuesday afternoon in men's tennis action at the Flagler Tennis Center.
The Wildcats moved to 3-8 on the season, while the Division II Saints, which came in nationally-ranked, fell to 2-7.
Taking the doubles point for the fourth time this year was Davidson as it scored 8-5 and 8-6 wins at No. 2 and 3. The pair of Robert Lightbourn and Ricky Saad won their first match together in doubles at No. 2, while Connor Evins and Alex Howard ran their record to a perfect 3-0 at the No. 3 spot.
Davidson sealed up the win by taking singles wins at No. 3, 5 and 6, with Ethan Kallick at No. 3 sealing it up. The senior moved to 3-5 on the year (2-2 at No. 3) with a thrilling 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
#J.B. Gough# won in straight sets at No. 5 by the scores of 6-0, 7-5, and Saad made it a perfect day by winning his first collegiate singles match by the count of 6-3, 7-5.
The Wildcats nearly took matches at No. 2 and 4, forcing a third set before falling. Evins at No. 2, split his first two matches, 3-6, 6-3, before falling 7-4 in a third-set tie-breaker to fall to 5-6 on the season.
Evin Watkins regrouped after a 6-1 first-set defeat to score a 6-0 win in the next set, but Flagler's Brant Switzler came back to earn the victory with a 6-4 third-set decision.
Davidson, currently on six-match road trip, will now open Southern Conference play this weekend, March 7 & 9, at Georgia Southern and Elon. Match times are set for 2:30 and 1 p.m.
