Davidson Earns Two Top-Fives To Conclude 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Patrick Rollo and senior Michael Lorentsen led the Davidson men's track & field team with top-five finishes Saturday, as the Wildcats wrapped up the outdoor opener at the annual Charlotte 49er Classic, held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of UNC Charlotte.
Rollo led several Wildcats in the 800-meter run in a personal-record time of 1 minute, 53.71 seconds to place third, while Lorentsen placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a Davidson all-time top-10 best 14 feet, 1.25 inches (4.30m).
Sophomore Xzavier Killings also competed, posting a top mark of 43-3 (13.18m) in the triple jump.
On Friday, seniors Whitner Chase and Andrew Lantz led the Wildcats with third-place finishes. Lantz ran the seventh-fastest time in Davidson history in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 3:50.47. Chase improved on his personal best time in the 5,000-meter run, which already ranked on Davidson's top-10 performers list, earning a podium finish in 14:41.43.
Senior Grayam Sailor-Tynes also earned a top-five finish, placing fourth in the steeplechase in 9:28.75.
Sophomore Charles Rappe had a strong day in the hurdles, placing 11th in the 400-meters in 55.78 seconds, and finishing the 110-meter hurdles in 15.55 seconds.
The Wildcats compiled a pair of top-15 finishes in two field events. Freshman Jonathan Campbell debuted in the javelin, earning a 12th-place finish with a top throw of 157 feet, 7 inches (48.04m), while senior Stewart Dalton placed 14th in the long jump with a top leap of 22-1 (6.73 m).
Dalton also competed in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, finishing in 11.13 seconds. Senior Nate Faubion led the 'Cats in the 400m in 50.80 seconds and also competed in the 200m (23.66), in which sophomore Xzavier Killings led Davidson in 23.50.
Davidson will next compete Friday at the Raleigh Relays and the Winthrop Invitational.
