WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite getting a career-high tying four goals from Emma Sissman, Davidson was unable to overcome three George Washington goals in the final 19 minutes in dropping a back-and-forth contest, 8-7, on the road Saturday afternoon at GW Lacrosse Field.

Davidson fell to 0-3 on the year and 0-6 in the all-time series vs. the Colonials, who improved to 3-1.

The game featured four ties and both teams had the lead at least three different times during the game.

Sissman led all scorers with her four goals.Erin Doherty had a goal and two assists, while Emily Cooke dished out three assists for the Wildcats.

Rachel Mia and Michaela Lynch, scoring two goals each, paced the Colonials. Jamie Bumgardner had three assists.

The Wildcats had erased a two-goal deficit with a pair of Sissman goals to open the second half and then took a 6-5 lead with their third goal in a row to open the half on Nicole Pettiglio's first career score at the 23-minute mark.

GWU came right back with a pair of its own goals later for a 7-6 lead, but Davidson tied it for the last time at 7-all on a Cooke to Doherty score at the 11:15 mark. It was Cooke's sixth assist on the season and moved her career total to within eight of tying the program's all-time mark of 77 set by Linda Rothemund.

It was short-lived as George Washington's Lynch netted the game-winner off a pass from Bumgardner a little over a minute later for an 8-7 advantage.

Katy Boyle kept the Wildcats within one goal with five saves in the last 10 minutes, but Davidson was held without a shot on the other end. Boyle had her third straight game of 10 saves and also picked up three groundballs.

GWU had a 23-18 lead in shots and picked up 22 groundballs compared to Davidson's 17, while forcing 12 of Davidson's 18 turnovers. The Wildcats held a 10-7 edge on draw controls.

Davidson grabbed a 2-0 lead to open the game on back-to-back Sissman goals off a pair of Doherty assists. George Washington then rattled off four straight and eventually took a 5-3 lead heading into halftime.

Defensively, Sissman had three draw controls to push her season total to a team-best 16. Katherine Rueger had a season-best five groundballs, while Paige Logan had two and a caused turnover.

Mia led George Washington with four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Mackenzie Jones finished with four saves in goal.

Davidson continues its four-game road trip with a visit to Kennesaw State next Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m.
