KENNESAW, Ga. – Led by seven Wildcats who scored at least two goals, the Davidson women's lacrosse team cruised to its first win of the campaign with a 22-4 victory on the road at Kennesaw State Saturday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
With both teams seeking their first win of the season, the Wildcats (1-3) came out on top by racing out to a 6-1 lead in the first 10 minutes and grew their advantage to 13-3 at the half, never looking back the rest of the way. KSU (0-4) was held to just one goal in the second half.
The 22 goals, a season-best, were the most since the 'Cats went off for 22 in a win against Howard, April 26, 2008.
Emily Cooke paced the offensive attack with a team and season-high eight points on a pair of goals and six assists. Her six assists gave her 12 on the season and moved her two within tying the school record of 77 set by Linda Rothemund. Cooke's eight points gave her a team-best 15 for the season and moved her into the top-10 all-time.
For the second game in a row, Emma Sissman had a four-goal output to tie her career high as she led 11 Wildcats in all who scored. The sophomore scored three of her goals in the first half, including two of the 'Cats' first six goals in the opening 10 minutes. Sissman added two groundballs and a career-high tying eight draw controls.
Right behind her in the offensive column was freshman Katherine Rueger. She had a season-high six points on four goals and two assists. The first-year player tallied five of those points in the first half, with three of them going for goals.
Scoring a pair each was Lucy Sexton, Ann Fucigna, Erin Doherty, Mary Leonard along with Cooke. Fucigna, Doherty and Leonard had an assist each for finish with three points.
Kendall Thielemann had her first collegiate goal, while Nicole Pettiglio, Emily Rademacher and Catherine Schmidt (first of the season) all added a goal apiece.
The Owls were led by Samantha Farwick's two goals. Emily Collins had a goal, an assist, three groundballs, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Davidson had season highs of 30 shots, 20 groundballs and 19 draw controls. Three 'Cats had three groundballs each, while Rademacher and Arden Simone (career-high) hauled in three draw controls apiece.
Between the pipes, Katy Boyle earned her first collegiate win by stopping six shots and giving up a season-low four goals.
Davidson wraps up its four-game road trip with a battle against No. 6 Duke in Durham, N.C., March 13, at 6 p.m.
