Davidson Nets First Win in Doubleheader Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Ethan Kallick and Zack Zapatero won a pair of doubles matches, Connor Evins pushed his singles win streak to three in a row and Davidson netted its first win of the season in a doubleheader Saturday with a 4-2 decision vs. Richmond in Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats fell in the second match to Presbyterian, 5-2, to earn a split on the day. They moved to 1-6 on the season, while Richmond fell to 2-5 and Presbyterian improved to 6-1.

In the morning match vs. the Spiders, Davidson played a 5-1 format with the doubles point being with two team points. The duo of Kallick and Zapatero got the Wildcats off to a 2-0 lead when they netted a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 1. The triumph was the pairs first victory of the season.

Davidson then captured two of the four singles matches that were completed to wrap up the win. The senior Evins earned the third point with an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

Alex Howard sealed up the team win with a strong 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

In the afternoon, Kallick and Zapatero helped the Wildcats sweep the doubles point with their second win of the day at No. 1, taking a 6-2 decision.
Evan Watkins and Ricky Saad then picked up a tie-breaker victory to earn the team point, taking a 7-3 win. It was the duos second win together on the year.

Evins though was the lone Wildcat the earn a point in the six singles matches vs. the Blue Hose. He moved to a team-best 4-3 on the season with his third straight victory on the strength of a 6-5 (3), 6-2 win at No. 3.

Kallick pushed his match to a third set vs. PC, but fell in the last two sets (6-1, 6-4) after earning a 6-3 triumph in the first set at No. 4 singles.

Davidson will not embark on a six-match road swing, starting Feb. 15 at Gardner-Webb. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
