Timpton Grabs A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman Saadia Timpton earned Davidson's second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor when she was named the league's women's basketball top rookie for games played from Dec. 22-28.
Timpton joins Mackenzie Latt, who won the award Nov. 24, as the two Wildcats to have earned the rookie of the week honor.
The Charlotte, N.C., native helped Davidson upend ACC-foe Virginia, 67-57, on the first day of the Holiday Inn University Area Cavalier Classic by tying her season-high with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Timpton was one of three 'Cats to reach the double-digit mark in points. It was also the freshman's third game of the season reaching the double-figure mark.
Timpton scored eight of her 10 points in the second half. She helped the Wildcats erase a 34-30 halftime deficit by scoring six of her second-half points during a game-changing 29-6 run that stretched from the end of the first half into the middle stages of the second half to give Davidson a commanding 59-40 lead.
For the season, Timpton is averaging just under six points to go along with four rebounds a game. The guard has played in all 12 of the Wildcats' games, while earning a starting nod in four of the last five contests. She ranks third on the team with 26 offensive rebounds out of her 48 total on the season.
After a game against Miami (Ohio), Dec. 29, Davidson begins its A-10 conference schedule with three straight home games against La Salle (Jan. 4), Dayton (Jan. 7) and Rhode Island (Jan. 11).
