FAIRFAX, Va. – In addition to providing a second-half equalizer, Timi Mulgrew converted a 95th minute penalty kick to lead George Mason to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Davidson in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Saturday evening.
With the win, the Patriots improve to 10-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats fall to 7-2-3 and 1-2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Maxi Pragnell gave Davidson a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the campaign. Pragnell's strike at the 51:50 mark came when the sophomore put away a Shane Macnamara blast that was knocked down by Mason's keeper.
For Macnamara it was his team-leading fourth assist of the season.
Mulgrew, who leads the conference in scoring with 12 goals, tied the score 19 minutes later with a header that deflected in off the cross bar.
The Wildcats' best chance in the opening period came off the foot of Alan Reiter, who missed just high of frame right before intermission.
Despite trailing in the shot column, Davidson finished with a 5-4 edge in corners, while Matt Pacifici turned away a game-high six shots.
In the 87th minute, Drew Brown had an opportunity to put the Wildcats back in front, but his right-footed attempt sailed wide of the far post.
Davidson will return to the Commonwealth Tuesday when they travel to Virginia Tech for a 7 p.m. contest.
