NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Davidson women's volleyball team went on the road to Fordham Friday night and was upset by the host Rams, 3-1. The defeat came by set scores of 25-13, 25-21, 17-25 and 28-26.

Davidson (3-15, 1-7 A-10) was paced offensively by Mary Harriet Moore, Kelly Friers and Rachel Earnhardt. Moore registered 10 kills with a .360 hitting percentage and added seven blocks defensively, while Friers contributed 10 kills, hit at a .409 clip and notched two blocks. Earnhardt had nine kills on the night.

Fordham (2-20, 2-6 A-10) combined to hit .204 with Brianna O'Neil and Sarah Skelton turning in 18 and 14 kills, respectively.

The Rams took command of the match in the opening set, sprinting out to a 13-7 lead en route to a 25-13 victory.

Fordham took a 7-5 lead to open the second set, but Davidson bounced back to pull within one, 9-8. A 5-0 stretch put the Wildcats on top 13-10 before the Rams used a 7-4 run of their own to make it a 20-17 match. Davidson could not overcome the host, however, as Fordham scored the final three points for a 25-21 victory.

Davidson answered back in the third, jumping out to an 8-3 advantage. Fordham used a 9-6 run to pull within two, 14-12. Back-to-back blocks from Moore and Michelle McNeight helped move the score to 17-13, before kills from Friers and Earnhardt put the frame away, 25-17.

The fourth stanza was tightly contest as the squads traded the lead five times and found themselves tied nine times. With Fordham on top, 24-23, Davidson rallied to tie the score three times when facing set point, but the Rams eventually prevailed, taking the set and match, 28-26.

Davidson will return to the court tomorrow to take on Rhode Island. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
