DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Duke, nationally-ranked Davidson returns to Alumni Stadium Saturday evening for a 7 p.m. Atlantic 10 contest against St. Bonaventure.
"We look forward to hosting another A-10 opponent at Alumni Stadium and we will do our best to deliver a strong, entertaining product to our excited supporters," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.
Trailing 1-0 in Durham on Tuesday, the Wildcats' Shane Macnamara converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute and Alan Reiter provided a golden goal midway through the first extra session to give Davidson its second road win over an ACC opponent this season.
Off to their best start since the 2009 campaign (9-1-0), the Wildcats enter 6-1-3 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
Ranked as high as 20th by Soccer America, Davidson is 12th in the NCAA's most recent RPI.
In addition to Reiter leading the team in scoring with five goals and 12 total points, four of his goals have been game-winners, which is tops in the conference. Forwards Valeriy Sviderskiy and Maxi Pragnell are second on the club with two goals each, while a total of 10 different Davidson players have found the back of the net this season.
The Wildcats, who are averaging 1.60 goals per game, have scored 16 times in 2014, with 14 of them coming after intermission. Junior goalkeeper Matt Pacifici has been impressive between the pipes with three shutouts and a 0.90 goals-against average.
St. Bonaventure comes into the contest 1-8-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
"The Bonnies are another new opponent for us as we seek our first conference win. No one should over-consider the teams' records to date. There is a lot of parity in DI men's soccer. Each game this year has been a tight, hard fought battle and that is part of the drama and theater of the sport because each contest is unique and up for grabs."
"Our focus will continue to be on ourselves - one day at a time, one game at a time. The team continues to focus on two tenets - each person is vital and each person is focused on development. Prepare > Perform. Plus the guys are very unified," Spear commented.
Following its first-ever meeting with the Bonnies, Davidson will enjoy a week away from game action before returning to the pitch, Saturday, Oct. 25 at George Mason.
