Match Results vs. College of Charleston

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson played a familiar foe on Sunday in its home opener, but saw College of Charleston spoil it, 6-1, in women's tennis at the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats fell to 0-2, while CofC evened its record to 1-1. The Cougars were one-time Southern Conference members before moving to the Colonial Athletic Association this year.

The Cougars took the doubles point to start the match by earning wins at No. 2 and 3 positions. The team of Brites Moniz-Soares and Elaina Cummer earned their first win of the season at No 1, netting a 6-4 victory. The team point came down to a tie-breaker at No. 3, in which Sarah Stein and Elise Held came up short, 7-3.

Scoring the lone team point on the afternoon was Held, who netted a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Nisha Crouser took her Cougar opponent to a super tie-breaker after splitting the first two sets, 6-7, 6-1. She then fell in the tie-breaker 10-3.

Playing in her first collegiate singles match was Stein, who was the Wildcats' No. 4. She hung tough, pushing Samantha Maddox to an extra game in the second set (7-5) after falling 6-3 in the first set.

Davidson stays at home for a doubleheader next Saturday, Jan. 25, as it will host Radford (10 a.m.) and Brevard College (3 p.m.)
