DAVIDSON, N.C. – Strong efforts by both squads helped the Davidson swimming & diving teams sweep CCSA rival Gardner-Webb at the annual Senior Day celebration on Saturday afternoon at Cannon Pool. The women earned a 166-128 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs, while the men took the meet 159.5-134.5.
Both sides kicked things off with victories in the 400-yard medley relay. The squad of Angie Healy, Katy Williams, Elise Lankiewicz and Meredith Nakano clocked in at 3:55.61 for the win. Luke Burton, Grant Smith, Will Fox and Brandon Kegley combined to take first place points for the men in 3:28.19, while Josh Schammel, Spencer Gill, Chris Cardwell and Cameron Bard backed them up with a second-place finish in a time of 3:35.32.
Anna Blair Bullock and Kate Carter went for the one-two punch in the 1000-yard freestyle. Bullock touched in 10:42.10, while Carter followed in 10:49.70. Dylan Ludwick claimed second for the men in 9:42.97, with Max Schimanski in third in a time of 9:50.72.
The Wildcats again claimed the top two spots in the women's 200-yard freestyle, with Liz Mace taking the win at 1:55.61. Healy picked up second place, clocking in at 1:55.64. Ben Stewart-Bates earned a second-place finish for the men, touching the pads in 1:46.38.
Luke Burton won the 100-yard backstroke for the men, finishing in a time of 52.25. Lauren Malachowski was third for the women, recording a time of 1:00.37.
Davidson took both sides of the 100-yard breaststroke race, with Williams and Gill taking top honors. Williams touched in 1:06.37, while Gill won the event in 58.81. Drew Gill came in third for the 'Cats, finishing in 1:00.38.
Lankiewicz came away with her first individual win of the day in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing the event in 2:05.57. Emily Covert was third in 2:11.86. Fox was the runner-up in the men's race, hitting the wall in 1:55.83.
Clancy and Bard were the runners-up in their respective 50-yard freestyle races. Clancy swam a 24.95, while Bard came away with a time of 21.85.
Nakano claimed the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.93, while Bard matched her feat on the men's side in 47.85. Kegley tied for the runner-up spot in a time of 48.25.
Burton and Ethan Levinson took second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Burton clocked in at 1:54.45, while Levinson finished in 1:57.82.
Williams notched her second win of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in a time of 2:22.79. Caroline Vrana was third in the event, swimming a time of 2:31.50. Smith took second on the men's side, completing the event in 2:12.19.
The women swept the 500-yard freestyle, with Bullock adding her second victory of the day in a time of 5:13.65. Mace was the runner-up in 5:15.19 with Kate Carter following in third at 5:20.25. Ludwick barely touched second on the men's side, clocking in at 4:41.53. Schimanski took fourth in 4:54.16.
Nakano earned her second victory of the day in the 100-yard butterfly, earning a narrow win in 57.70. Lankiewicz was close behind in third at 57.91. Fox won the men's event in a time of 51.62.
Smith claimed the runner-up spot in the 200-yard IM to close out the individual events, touching the wall in 1:56.08. Spencer Davies was third in 2:00.76.
Kaliya Burton-Akright and Brian McRae swept the diving events, with Burton-Akright earning a trip to the NCAA Zone Meet. She won the 1-meter with a score of 270.87, with Karen Monuszko in second with 238.87 points. Burton-Akright won the 3-meter with 274.20 points, with Monuszko a close runner-up with a score of 264.20. McRae took the 1-meter with 250.28 points and the 3-meter with a total of 264.60 points.
The women's 800-yard free relay took second to end the meet as Bullock, Malachowski, Carter and Shannon combined for a time of 8:08.65. The men's squad of Ludwick, Stewart-Bates, Burton and Smith earned one more victory for the Wildcats, taking the event in 7:01.03.
The 'Cats will be back in action at Cannon Pool in two weeks when they host their final CCSA Duals event. The meet will take on a new format this year, starting Friday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. and continuing on Saturday.

Nakano claimed the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.93, while Bard matched her feat on the men's side in 47.85. Kegley tied for the runner-up spot in a time of 48.25.

The women swept the 500-yard freestyle, with Bullock adding her second victory of the day in a time of 5:13.65. Mace was the runner-up in 5:15.19 with Kate Carter following in third at 5:20.25. Ludwick barely touched second on the men's side, clocking in at 4:41.53. Schimanski took fourth in 4:54.16.
Nakano earned her second victory of the day in the 100-yard butterfly, earning a narrow win in 57.70. Lankiewicz was close behind in third at 57.91. Fox won the men's event in a time of 51.62.
